Summer Garden 2017

Recently we made our summer garden. First, we prepared the soil by taking out all of the weeds and making nice, deep beds for our vegetables.

We are doing an experiment with two kinds of organic fertilizer. We want to see which fertilizers helps our vegetables grow better. The first kind of fertilizer is made from pine needles and bamboo ash.

The second is made from pine needles. We used it last year and it worked really well.

Finally, we planted a LOT of different vegetables: cucumber, tomatoes, green pepper, eggplant, zucchini, lettuce, corn, carrots, spicy red pepper, and okra. We're looking forward to enjoying these vegetables over the summer.

If you are nearby, feel free to take a walk through our garden.

This week I observed the califlower. The tempurture was cold. The califlower in the normal soil was19 cm tall and 25 cm wide. The califlower in the fertilized soil was 28cm tall and 32 cm wide. Compared to the califlower in the normal soil, the califlower in the fertilized soil looks really large.

The califlower looks healthy. The califlower in the fertilized soil seems to be eaten their leafs by insects.   This time, I ovserved them with Kana. I enjoyed it ,but it was cold .

I observed the cabbage. This week, it rained a lot. The cabbage  in the normal soil was 20cm tall and 30cm wide. The cabbage in the fertilized soil was 20cm tall and 35cm wide. The cabbage looks healthy. There are no insects and animals.
It is difficult to observe vegetables because of  a large pool in the garden!
It rained a lot.     by Rie
